[65] her a little money. I had not much but I know not what I give her. Parted with my companion, he having gone with me more than half way. Meeting at 7:30 p.m. We had a good meeting. Supper with Bro. Pitts. Bro. James Snape(?) gave me 6 pence. I felt somewhat thankful as it was all I had. Lodged at home.

May 23, 123, Friday

At home breakfast, rather wet morning. Arrived at the room, Bro. Kay was a little better. Got out Star parcels. We had conversation together. Told him where I had been and spent the previous week. Exhorted me to faithfulness. Asked me how [shorthand?] said [???] thought that was [???] very good [???] as such I would [???] memory. Had a comfortable day together. Truly I felt to rejoice when he showed me [66] the priestly garment which he would wear when he got to Salt Lake. Said I should not learn the use of them until I got to the Valley. Truly I feel to rejoice, and stimulated while writing about it. Feel more determined to live my religion and magnify the calling placed upon me. Said I would live here to learn, in order for to know when I arrive at my much desired home. [more shorthand, or perhaps Deseret letters] Rushtons [???] went to sleep at Mitchell Rothwell, as I had to go to Middleton the following morning. Supper and lodgings with them.

May 24, Saturday, Middleton

Breakfast with Bro. John Rothwell. Went through the Mechanics Institution news of not much consequence. Read a little in a book about the Mormons.

Bro. Mitchell, John & me arrived at the room. Bro. Kay was a little better. They departed. We had a walk round town, to the infirmary.
