[59] [top margin: "Romans VIII, 29 verse"]

May 17, Saturday, Pendlebury

Breakfast at home, clogging and working in the cellar all forenoon, as my shoes were gone to my old master's to be mended. Called to see sister Lusy, called in Joseph Bridges sweetheart. Told her what Bro. Dame desired me to tell her, that is for her to rest herself content with regard to him. She would very likely hear again from him, as he had been working for her good all the time. Desired her to take good care of herself and keep herself to herself. She said there was no fear of that.

Stayed a while with Bro. Pitts. Had tea with him. Called at Harrops'. Rachel spoke with regard to my father. Said that his sons would have hard work to please him in choosing wives. I passed it off with a joke. Called at Rushtons'. Read a letter from son Thomas, very good one he had sent. Supper and lodgings with Bro. Newton at Kersley.

[60] May 18, Sunday, Bury

Breakfast with Sister & Bro. Hollows. Bro. Fogg accompanied me through Halghmoor. Stayed at Heelises a while. Had dinner with them. Martha was very unwell. Pain in her face and neck, but hopes she will soon be better.

Saw Bro. Horrocks. They had begun outdoor preaching, which to hear did me good to know that hey had a desire to preach the gospel. In company with the old man went to Darcy Leaver Station. Booked for Bury.

Arrived at the room a little before 2. Had a good meeting. I spoke to them about 25 minutes upon sacrament, doing right, and unto others as we desire them to do unto us. Meeting closed. Tea with Bro. Daniel Lord. Meeting commenced at 6 p.m. A goodly number of Saints and strangers was present. I addressed them for 50 minutes upon the first principles of the gospel, etc. Had a walk round the fields with Bro. Entwistle (?). Supper and lodgings with Bro. Witworth.
