[51] his house, made an acquaintance with his family, after which his son William with me had a walk through Openshaw. Very pleasant evening. Enjoyed each other from ???. In our journey a young woman met us desiring relief, a penny or any small copper that we might have to spare. I had not any money but Wm. gave her a penny. I tried to picture before him that ??? she had a sweetheart, and had traveled in this road in order to not meet him, and desired not that he should not know her distress. Accidentally she met with him. ??? what would be the feelings of the party.

Supper together when we had singing, dancing. Made ourselves as merry as possible. We got to bed by half past 2 in the morning.

May 11, Sunday, Ashton

Had breakfast. Left in company with Bro. Holt visiting some of the Saints. Bro. Lee [52] asked me if I had any money. I told him "No." He gave me 4 pence to assist me on my road. Made my journey to Ashton, had dinner with Bro. George Lee. Attending meeting in the afternoon, a goodly number of Saints present. I spoke some 25 minutes to them upon the Sacrament. The Saints bore their testimony. Meeting dismissed with prayer from myself.

Tea with Bro. Morton. Meeting again-opened with singing, prayer, etc. I addressed those present for 50 minutes upon the principles of "Truth," the "Diety," "Baptism," "Infant Sprinkling," the "Spirit," etc. Visited a sister who was afflicted, prayed with her, singing, etc. Supper and lodgings with Bro. Hardy.

May 12, Monday, Ashton

Breakfast with Bro. Hardy and had a walk round the town with the brethren. Dinner with Bro. Samuel Booth, tea with
