[31] April 24, Clayton
Arose from my uneasy bed about 6 a.m. and washed myself, and attended to breakfast at Sister Morris's. Had a pretty good talk with Bro. Morris during the forenoon about emigration. Had dinner with him. He told me some good truths about his brother Joseph who is the false prophet of Deseret. Said he was a man that was very headstrong and a little insane sometimes, and was of a jealous disposition.
After dinner, I made my way to through Ashton and along to Clayton. Arrived at Bro. Wardle's when to my surprise and astonishment I met with Pres. Lyman and Bro. Kay seated in Bro. Wardle's. I had tea with them, it being the first time that I had of speaking to President Amasa M. Lyman. Truly I felt to rejoice when under the influence that surrounded them. They departed on the coach to Manchester. I staged meeting with them and had a good [32] time with the Saints. Supper and Lodgings with Bro. Wardle.
April 25, Pendleton
Breakfast with them and pursued my way to Manchester. Bro. Lyman & Bro. Kay was at breakfast. They came in and me saluted each other with the shake of the hand. I set to work and got out the parcels to their several places. Received orders were to be at [out?] the coming week to take the Tottington and Ashton ??? to get in the reports and moneys from the different branches.* I felt to rejoice under the good spirit that was with them. I departed with their blessing to the several Star parcel offices and delivered them all right. I called and had a rest in the Peel Park reading room. Had tea with Bro. John rothwell and slept with his father.
*to be in by Wednesday
