[29] Utah. Walked from Staleybridge to Ashton and found Bro. Lethers and had dinner with him and his family. Then-with much trouble-found my way to Bro. George Lee, and had a good long chat with him about the first rise of the church. Had tea with him. He then let me the road and found some of the Saints houses.

Meeting commenced at 8 o'clock. I spoke to them for sometime, and the Saints bore testimony to the truth of the gospel. Had a good meeting and closed with prayer from Bro. Morton. Supper and lodgings with Bro. Hardy.

April 23, Duckenfield

Breakfast with Bro. Hardy and went to Bro. Lethers. Found my way to Number 30 Moss St. where Bro. George Bardsley resided and had dinner with him. Left there and arrived [30] at Staley-bridge where I could neither find the room nor any of the Saints, but I made my way up for Duckenfield and found lodge lane where Bro. Connell lived, and also Bro. Morris's, when one of the sisters of the branch, whose husband is not in the church, invited me to tea.

Attended meeting at 8 p.m. when about 8 in number was present. The branch numbering about 24. I spoke some time to them, exhorting them to faithfulness. The meeting closed with prayer from myself.

I knew not as yet where I was going to lodge, but Bro. Connell and me came together to his house. He did not know where I must be all night. Sister Morriss had asked me to sleep at their house, but I rather declined on account of her husband working in the night. But however they managed with much trouble to make me one along 5 chairs where I slept for some time during the night.
