[23] there being only 3 families. I spent most of my time with Sister Shaws where I had tea, there being a many of her sons out of the church. I desired them to repent of their sins and obey the gospel. A good spirit prevailed. I slept with them (James Shaw) being my bedfellow.

Tuesday April 15, Middleton

I had breakfast with Shaws and in company with son James made my way to Middleton. Found the Prest. of the branch. Bro. Wood visited as many of the Saints as I could, dinner with Bro. Joseph Eckersley, tea with Bro. Wood, his wife being not very well. Attended meeting at 8 o'clock when a few Saints and too not Saints was present. Had a good meeting. I spoke to them some time. Meeting closed with prayer from myself. Supper with Bro. Wood.

[24] Wednesday April 16th, Oldham

Breakfast with a friend, where I had been lodging at, not in the church but favorable to the truth. Visited Bro. Wood and found my way to Oldham, where I was well received, with dinner at Bro. Cocker's, a person who had been in the church over 20 years, and tea with Bro. James Gledhill. Visited Edward Gledhill's family, 4 of whom was going to the Valley this season. Accompanied Bro. Cocker to Sister Ashworth's, where the meeting was being held at half past seven. The house was filled with Saints. I spoke some time to them and give them the meeting to occupy as they felt. A goodly number of them bore their testimony, and those who was emigrating desired that if the Saints had anything against them they would tell them before they went so that they would be able to leave home in peace. I again occupied some length of time. A good spirit was there. Supper and Lodgings with father Cocker.
