[9] Monday April 1st, Ashton
Met Bro. Kay at his lodgings, having had my breakfast at Sister Ashworths. Left for Middleton. He instructing me about good things, desired me to be careful and not oppress the Saints, but be good, kind, and affectionate to all. We received the report of the Middleton Branch. Rode [?] down to Manchester, stayed a while expecting letters from his family. As there was none came we rode to Ashton and found all the Saints that was going to the Valley preparing for their journey. I had tea at Bro. Lee's who was the President of the branch and for the first time; we slept together at Sister Woolfenden's.

Visited Bro. Lee of Ashton, and attended meeting at 8 p.m. I spoke a little to the Saints, after which Bro. Kay give them some good encouragement. Advised the Saints to be careful on their journey. Especially the young sisters, ??? them not to be led astray by any evil disposed persons. But stick true to their religion, true to their God and one another and good would be the result.
