[4] Saturday March 30th 1862
On the 30th day of March 1862 Prest. Dame brought my letter of appointment dated the 26th Inst. He had a little dinner at our house and instructed me a little about the keeping of my journal when I might have to travel from day to day. On the Saturday morning I told my master, I. Lindley (?) that I believed I was going to leave him. He asked me where I was going? I told him that I was going out to preach the gospel, call upon people to repent of their sins and be baptized for the remission of the same. He was somewhat surprised and in his mind disturbed because of the short notice that I had give [sic] him. But nevertheless he was glad in one sense of the word but very sorrow in another. He said we had been more like companions than journeyman (?) and master, --hoped my time was being [margin note: "Give Mr. Lindley a 'Book of Mormon'"]
