    Notes:

BIOGRAPHY: Was converted in England with his brother John (first husband of Catherine Harrop) and the rest of the family. Most then migrated to America. Their father would not come, allegedly due to a fear of water.

The IGI records that James and "Martha Heeliss" were married again on 7 Jan 1865 in Salt Lake City. This is just prior to their sealing on 25 Jan 1865.

Middle name may have been Ernest. One IGI record shows "James Ernest Lythgoe" marrying Elizabeth Ann Birks.

    From "Henefer, Our Valley Home":
p.18: Came to Utah 26 Sep 1864, Joseph S. Rawlin's Oxteam Company. Trade: Farmer, shoemaker, musician.

p.28: James Lythgoe was an apprentice to a shoemaker in Lancashire, England. He learned the trade and made wooden shoes. He also learned to play the violin in England, walking seven miles each week for his music lesson. He taught music lessons and could play and teach almost any instruments. After arriving in Utah, he homesteaded a farm but his music was never forgotten. He played his violin for many entertainments and dances and became chorister for the first choir organized in Henefer. He and his wife, Hannah, operated a little confectionery and store for many years in Henefer.

p.113: As early as May 7, 1871 James Lythgoe was authorized to organize and preside over a choir in the Henneferville Branch. James became the first choir leader and undertook the assignment with serious intent. His organist was William Paskett...

1880 US Census lists his occupation as "Farming".

Thomas married Esther Wilcock on 4 Apr 1825 in Leigh, Lancashire, England. 2. 5.  Esther WilcockEsther Wilcock was born on 6 Mar 1805 in Hindley, Lancashire, England; was christened on 31 Mar 1805 in Hindley, Lancashire, England (daughter of James Wilcock and Ann Ramsdell); died on 23 Jul 1885 in Henefer, Summit County, Utah; was buried on 17 Aug 1885 in Henefer, Summit County, Utah.

    Notes:

BURIAL: Other records show 26 Jul 1885.

    BIRTH: Headstone says Apr 1806.

From "Henefer, Our Valley Home" (p.89): Frightened--Because of the illness of her husband John, Esther Taylor was forced to work to care for her family every day. She walked to Echo, about 2 miles, to do washing on the scrub board for hotels and boarding houses. It was late at night when she was finished and she had no way to get home, but walk. One night as she walked along the railroad track just below Leonard's Point she heard some weird sounds like crying or moaning. There had been rumors of a cougar being seen and heard around the vicinity and Esther was sure the animal was after her. She was terribly frightened and ran home just as fast as her legs could carry her. Esther was always sorry she did not have courage to stop and investigate the noise because soon after this experience the body of Mrs. Esther Lythgoe, mother of James Lythgoe, was found lying in some trees beside the river. The old lady had been very ill and had wandered away from home. Esther always felt that perhaps she could have found Mrs. Lythgoe and saved her life.

Generation: 4

  1. 8.  Joseph Lythgoe was born on 17 Jan 1753 in Leigh, Lancashire, England; was christened on 7 Jun 1764 in Pennington, Leigh, Lancashire, England (son of Elizabeth Lythgoe); died on 14 Dec 1803 in Leigh, Lancashire, England; was buried in Leigh, Lancashire, England.

    Notes:

BIRTH: Martha Mikesell's records say 15 Nov 1755.

DEATH: AF says 19 Jun 1812, but records of James Lythgoe, Joseph's grandson, say 14 Dec 1803.

From Ancestral File (TM), data as of 2 January 1996.

Joseph married Elizabeth Burron on 16 Jul 1786 in Leigh, Lancashire, England. Elizabeth (daughter of Ralph Burrows and Tabitha Ainsworth) was born on 12 May 1753 in Leigh, Lancashire, England; died on 1 Apr 1838 in Manchester, Lancashire, England. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

  2. 9.  Elizabeth Burron was born on 12 May 1753 in Leigh, Lancashire, England (daughter of Ralph Burrows and Tabitha Ainsworth); died on 1 Apr 1838 in Manchester, Lancashire, England.

    Notes:

BIRTH: AF says abt 1766, but this conflicts with the history of her grandson, James Lythgoe, who says abt 1753.

NAME: AF says Betty Burron, but James Lythgoe says Betty Ainsworth. The Betty Burron marriage is too late (1786) in my opinion (14 children in 17 years? Perhaps, but I don't think so), and there is no record in the IGI of a marriage between Joseph Lythgoe and Betty Ainsworth. There is a 1780 marrige between Joseph Lythgoe and Betty Birchal, and there is a 1752 marriage of James Birchal and Elizabeth Ainsworth--a clue?

New information (1 Apr 2017): Burron is probably a misspelling of Burrows.

    Notes:

Ann (daughter of Thomas Ramsdale and Esther Kay or Key) was born on 21 Mar 1772 in Hindley, Lancashire, England; died on 24 Jan 1849; was buried on 21 Jan 1849 in Hindley, Lancashire, England.
