More About Us
(Darrin & Andrea Lythgoe)

Darrin's Side

Darrin's ancestors are mainly English, but he also has a fair amount of Danish heritage, along with a bit of Irish and Scottish and a considerable contingent from the Isle of Man. By adoption he also has a Norwegian line. Many in each line were LDS pioneers who crossed the Great Plains for Utah in the 19th century.

Although born in Utah, Darrin grew up in Massachusetts. After high school Darrin left for Brigham Young University to major in computer science and later journalism as well, a combination that has proven invaluable on the Web. He spent two years in South Africa as an LDS missionary and four even harder months as the OBGYN editor for an audio medical magazine in Los Angeles (it's all true!). Somewhere in the middle he met Andrea and there was much rejoicing. Thankfully, Darrin then ditched the wacky OB job (more rejoicing) and became a programmer and web developer. Three daughters and a freelance writing career later, Darrin stumbled on his true calling — genealogy. His mission is now to collect all that is known about the family history and preserve it for all to share on the Internet.

Andrea's Side

The majority of Andrea's ancestors are English as well, but one group consists of fairly recent Scottish immigrants (all by way of Canada), and you'll also find a few German lines. Many of her ancestors arrived in the US during the colonial period, and some fought in the American Revolution (on both sides).

Andrea's life started in California (mostly the northern half), where she stayed pretty well put until venturing out to BYU to study athletic training. After marrying Darrin (they lived in the same apartment complex) and surviving the OB thing, she returned to school at the University of Utah, where she finally conquered and obtained her degree in health education. She's now a doula, a childbirth educator, an excellent mom, and a savvy Internet businessperson.
